What meat is used in kebab in Switzerland?

Verified 5 August 2026

Swiss kebab shops may serve beef, veal, chicken, turkey or lamb. The key distinction is whether meats are combined on one skewer or offered separately for the customer to choose.

Common meats

Beef and veal tend to offer deeper flavour, poultry a lighter profile and lamb a more distinctive taste. The actual result also depends on cuts, fat, marinade, cooking and slicing.

Mixed or a choice

Two meat names may describe different offers.

  • Mixed: meats are combined and served together from one skewer.
  • Choice: separate skewers let the customer select a meat.
  • Unknown: the ordered composition could not be confirmed.

Whole cuts and minced meat

The animal name does not fully describe the skewer. It may contain layered cuts, minced meat or both, producing different textures.

What Dönerstag verifies

We record only meat information supported by a source or the restaurant. Composition and production method remain separate facts, and uncertainty is left visible internally rather than guessed.

Sources and verification
